Staff Changes and Chrome App

Calis Projects regrets to inform you that 3 staff members are no longer on the team. Wichu, Kiwi and Martyr have parted ways with us. We wish them the best of luck in future projects. We know these guys have some great stuff coming for end users soon.

Martyr is focusing on his music label, Freelancer (link up top), which will still be collaborated with on music for future projects by Calis. Freelancer tracks will also be used for the Calis Projects loading screen for games and for our podcast intro.

Congrats to Staff Member Yuoaman on becoming a Mod over at Pokecommunity for it’s Game Development section. He will be my successor in my old position and we know he will do us proud. Calis Projects wishes him the best of luck.

Chrome OS is a lightweight linux based Operating System designed for netbooks by Google. It is designed to run web based Apps. Calis Projects now has a Chrome OS app. This app can also be installed on the regular Chrome browser for Windows and Mac. I have taken some screenshots to show you guys.

Update: To read how to install this on Google Chrome browser right now. Read this post from the forums.

Welcome to Koen!

Map Spoiler #1

Time to start this spoiler I have been putting off for so long. Overtime, viewers will see the world map of Koen pieced together. Clearly this is not the whole world map, but it is the very first portion of the overall map you will experience while obtaining your starter.

What better point on the map space to show you then your own doorstep?

Riceeman’s Sprite of the Week 1 Contest Winner!

Sprite of the Week 1: Fusion

Staff member Riceeman held a sprite contest on the forum.

The contests theme was Fusion. The goal was to fuse existing pokemon sprites together to creature your sprite.

The winner was just announced by Riceeman on the forum in his thread.

Congrats to fellow Staff member: Ivanna.

She submitted this sprite:

Here is a comment from the judge himself, Riceeman:

Spriting Skill: 15/20
It’s all merged together very well. The things I will say are the patch of highlight on the back of its body probably isn’t how it should be and the shading on it’s tail is the wrong way around. The top of it’s head and horn things are also strange with regards to the lineart (mostly on the head top, it’s a bit flattish) and shading. Overally, very nice, but room for improvement, definitely.
Creativity: 8/10
Was not expecting anything like that. Recognisable yet a seperate entitiy in itself. Very nice.
Appearance: 8/10
The body pattern’s are very nice, though it’s neck feels a little plain, adn the neck itself feels a bit fat down near the bottom and a bit too long. Overall, very “rawrish”. Tongue
Total: 31/40- Riceeman

And there you have it.

An honorable mention to Atomic Reactor who placed second with his sprite:

Click the picture above to go to the Calis Projects Steam group.

Calis Projects has a Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and DeviantArt. However, it has expanded once again, and we now have a Steam group.

What is Steam?

Wikipedia Wrote:Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute games and related media online, from small independent efforts to larger releases. Steam also has other features including community features, automated game updates, and in-game voice and chat.

The Steam group is open to the public, and we’ll be announcing any major changes to the site there, and maybe plan a few gaming nights here and there. Hope to see you there!

And finally, new Staff… Or is it…..
We have some new friends back.
This was done a few weeks ago, but I never announced it. I was waiting until I could make this big announcement.
Please, community, leave a welcome back message for Riceeman and The English Kiwi.
